CEAS is delighted to announce that esteemed British journalist David Rennie will be the CEAS Professional Series speaker for 2025. This high impact lecture series brings individuals who do significant work in East Asian studies outside the context of a university to campus. It highlights authors, journalists, policymakers, film-makers, etc. who have made serious contributions to our understanding of current issues in East Asia and their connections to the United States.
Rennie joined The Economist in 2007 as European Union correspondent and Charlemagne columnist. Since then, he has assumed several key roles within the organization. Most recently, he was Beijing bureau chief from May 2018 to September 2024, launching the Chaguan column on China in September 2018. He has since returned to London as Geopolitics editor and launched The Telegram, a column on geopolitics, in October 2024. He is the co-host, with Alice Su, of the Drum Tower podcast, which launched in late 2022.
Rennie’s lecture on US-China relations will take place on Thursday, April 3, 4:30PM at the Pyle Center in Room 309. We are especially thankful to our co-sponsors, the East Asian Legal Studies Center (EALSC) and the Madison Committee on Foreign Relations (MCFR), for their support for this year’s lecture.
