Asian Languages and Cultures professor Hongming Zhang was in Kobe, Japan last week, attending the 27th Annual Conference of the International Association of Chinese Linguistics (IACL-27), which was held on May 10-12, 2019 at Kobe City University of Foreign Studies. IACL-27 had received altogether 742 paper submissions from universities and research institutions in 15 countries. Only 203 papers (about 27% of the papers submitted) were accepted for presentation at this conference, including 6 papers from scholars affiliated with UW-Madison or UW-Madison alumni. At the event, Professor Zhang was invited to give a keynote speech, entitled ‘Features of Prosodic Patterns and Units of Prosodic Hierarchy’. At the closing ceremony of the conference, Professor Zhang gave an inaugural address in light of his becoming the President of IACL.
