Transporting Jade in China
Abstract
This lecture was part of the Center for East Asian Studies Fall Semester lectures program. Yulian Wu spoke on her current project titled, “Crafting Jade: The Construction of Objects and Empire in Eighteenth-Century China,” which explores jade production and consumption in the High Qing period. This talk offered historical connection to current issues involving China’s Xinjiang Province from the perspective of natural resources and craft production. UW-Madison Art History Professor Yuhang Li moderated the lecture.
Biography
Yulian Wu is Assistant Professor of History at Michigan State University. Dr. Wu specializes in material culture, gender relations, and Manchu studies in early modern China.
