Subtitling for Parasite and Korean Cinema in the Anglophone World
Abstract
The Center for East Asian Studies presented a virtual lecture by Darcy Paquet on the impossible art of film translation. Paquet discussed these challenges based on his work bringing Bong Joon Ho’s Oscar-winning “Parasite” and other Korean hits to an English-speaking audience.
Biography
Darcy Paquet is the founder of Koreanfilm.org and the author of New Korean Cinema: Breaking the Waves (2010). Since moving to Seoul in 1997, he has worked as a journalist, lecturer, and film critic, and has translated the subtitles for over 100 Korean films.
