Fall semester 2024 programming for the Center for East Asian Studies will feature talks by alumni, a panel on the impact of the presidential election, and lectures about Chinese politics, Japanese literature, Korean popular culture and more.
The alumni returning to campus to give lectures include:
- economist Nicholas R. Lardy, who received his B.A. in economics at UW-Madison in 1968 and is now a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute on International Economics, speaking Oct 24 on China’s economy.
- social scientist Meeryoung Kim, who received her doctorate at UW-Madison in 2001 and is now a professor at Daegu University in Korea, speaking Nov 19 on aging in modern Korea.
CEAS faculty Judd Kinzley, Louise Young and David Fields will offer a panel discussion Oct 29 examining the impact of the U.S. presidential election on East Asian Politics.

- Pil Ho Kim, Ohio State University, “Polarizing Dreams: Gangnam and popular culture in globalizing Korea,” 4 pm Nov 19 in Ingraham Hall.
