Conference Travel Awards
Deadline for applications: Friday, Feb. 28, 2020
The Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) at UW-Madison travel grants are available for all faculty and academic staff to present research focusing on East Asia languages or related area studies at any major scholarly meetings or conferences. Awards up to $800 for domestic travel will be provided to faculty who are presenting papers, chairing, and/or commenting in accepted sessions related to East Asian topics at annual meetings (e.g., the American Sociology Association) or at conferences relevant to East Asian studies (e.g., the Association for Asian Studies). Other types of participation with a strong East Asia focus will also be considered.
Applications can be submitted for costs related to attending international conferences that have an East Asia focus, but the funding cannot be used for international flights.
CEAS is particularly interested in supporting the work of early career faculty and scholars working on interdisciplinary projects. Awardees may be invited to give a short presentation of their work at a CEAS event and join CEAS if they are not already members.
About CEAS
CEAS is dedicated to all aspects of research, education and outreach related to China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. The mission of the travel grant program is to strengthen the community of scholars, promote professional development, and enhance the training of future experts working in these areas at UW-Madison.
Eligibility
All current faculty and academic staff in the humanities, social sciences, and professional schools at UW-Madison are eligible to apply for CEAS conference travel grants. Unfortunately, graduate students are not eligible for these awards.
Criteria for Travel Support
Support will be provided for the presentation of research results related to East Asia languages or area studies at major conferences and meetings in 2020. The successful applicant should be able to provide proof of acceptance (such as the official notification email or letter) where relevant, an abstract of the accepted paper and/or panel session, and an explanation of how the proposed conference participation will benefit research and teaching in East Asia-relevant topics at UW-Madison.
