K-16 Outreach/Teacher Professional Development Workshops &
K-16 Teacher Courses for University Credit

Given its importance in world history, culture, and economics, East Asia is a topic covered in some way by almost every elementary and high school curriculum. Also, teaching of Chinese and Japanese at the high school level is increasing. The core of our outreach program for these area studies and language teachers is a series of professional development workshops and university courses for credit designed for K-16 teachers in Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest.

A Professional Development Seminar for Secondary World History, World Geography & World Literature Teachers
Class dates: Sat. Sept. 13, Sat. Sept. 27, Sat. Oct. 10, Sat. Nov. 1, Sat. Nov. 8, Sat. Nov. 22 2008
Follow-Up Session Dates: TBA, Spring 2009

This free 45-hour seminar offers secondary teachers the opportunity to engage in study, analysis, and discussion of new scholarship related to Chinese, Korean and Japanese history, geography, and culture Academic credit (3 credits) is available as an option through the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Eligibility:  This seminar is open to secondary world geography, world history, and world literature teachers currently teaching courses that include the study of China, Korea, and/or Japan, and to pre-service Education students who hope to teach such material.

Registration:  Deadline is September 12, 2008.
Registration is limited on a first come, first served basis; register early to insure a place.
Offered by the Center for East Asian Studies at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
